Amy Hetherington is a 26-year old business owner, comedian, filmmaker, youth advocate, mentor and volunteer who is passionate about using her skills to support her community, especially in the development and promotion of arts and youth activities. Through her small business, Amiable Communications, Amy helps Territory businesses and organisations share their stories with filmmaking, photography and promotional services and workshops.
She is also the Marketing and Communications Officer at MusicNT and is committed to supporting and celebrating the growing music community in the NT. Amy is heavily involved in the Darwin community, volunteering and mentoring young people with various organisations.
She has worked on National Youth Week, with the City of Darwin LAUNCH Program, the Charles Darwin University ASPIRE program and YChange (a youth run program to promote healthy relationships with alcohol). Amy also uses her skills in filmmaking to provide skills-development workshops for young people in the Northern Territory.
In addition to this, Amy is a popular and enthusiastic stand up comedian and event MC. She won the 2015 NT RAW Comedy Final and has performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Darwin Festival. She has supported big name comedians such as Fiona O’Loughlin, Jimeon, Dave O’Neil and Glenn Robbins.
Amy is an energetic, positive and driven young woman who loves being involved in her community. She was a NT state finalist in the 2014 Australian of the Year Awards, she won the 2015 Darwin Young Citizen of the Year and was a recipient of the 2014 Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars scholarship.
