Pritika Desai is 24 years young and works in youth and community engagement at the YMCA of the Top End. She also founded and manages a local youth-led movement called ShoutOut! which focuses on destigmatising conversations on youth mental illness and providing greater access to support for young people with mental health issues.
The project has grown over its 2 years with major sponsorship from the YMCA of the Top End and Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory and relationships with major players within the mental health sector including Suicide Prevention Australia, Blackdog Institute, Northern Territory Department of Health and Young and Well CRC.
ShoutOut! was recently funded by the Foundation for Young Australians and Samsung Adappt program to develop the youth mental health app, In The Zone, designed by her team and by young people across Australia. ShoutOut! has been featured locally in the NT News, ABC radio, ABC news and 9 news, as well as, Nationally on Buzzfeed and The Australian.
Pritika is the 2015 NT Young Achiever of the Year, 2016 Australia Day Awards Young Citizen of the Year and 2016 National Youth Week Ambassador.
